The Elevator EXP (experience) is an electronic matching unit which steps up the output from a conventional moving coil cartridge, up to moving magnet output level. It functions in a similar way to a step-up transformer, except, being electronic, it doesn't suffer the non-linear losses a transformer introduces by requiring excitation current before it passes the remaining portion of the signal to the secondary. This inefficiency leads to bass loss which is "massaged" back by magnetic trickery. Also, transformers can peak at high frequencies requiring further manipulation. Transformers being inductors, are prone to power line pick-up (hum). Step-up transformers are usually very expensive as well. The "EXP" overcomes these disadvantages revealing the true potential of your moving coil. Originally designed to allow our MM phono stages to accept moving coil inputs, the "EXP" has also found use doing the same with other phono stages, particularly valve types that would otherwise be too noisy at the voltage gain required by MC. Not recommended for fully DC coupled phono section.

These units are supplied with a PSU1-24 power supply. They must not be powered by a PSU1-24 that is also in use powering any of our other products otherwise extensive damage will result.
